Is it Important to Change Them?

Damaged tyres are not only dangerous to you and your passengers, they are also dangerous to other road users. At the right pressure, the compound rubber and scientifically cut tread patterns add to your car’s handling and comfort. If too much wear and tear has taken place, it will affect your grip and safety whilst driving as your car will quickly become harder to handle. Incorrect tyre pressures and/or uneven tyre wear is also dangerous due to the fact that it will increase stopping distances in wet conditions.

If your tyre tread is below the legal minimum depth of 1.6mm, your tyres will have reached the threshold required to fail an MOT as well as meaning you could get fined or receive penalty points on your license. But for safety reasons we recommend changing them before the legal limit is reached.

How often MUST they be checked?

Every MOT test and service; and regularly by driver.
